Smile How to remove a Robin 295 from a 2001 EZGO TXT

Hi Guys. Thanks to a lot of help here I got the courage to remove my motor from the golf cart today. It went fairly well.

I decided to make my very first YouTube video. It's long, but helpful I think. Please go easy on me I'm sure I did some things the hard way, but the motor is out. Just hoping this video will help some other novices like me down the line.

I have decided to do the Vegas 625 swap. Once that get's rolling I will start another thread tracking my progress. I will also try to continue to make videos as I go along - I just think they're overall more helpful than just pictures. Anyway, hope you enjoy. More to come if I don't die of heatstroke :)

Hey You got the old one out. Putting the new one in is nearly as simple IF you are using something like a Vegascarts complete kit with engine. Step by step bolt in. I took my smoking G 14 engine out friday after work ,installed the VC 460 on saturday afternoon, and went riding sunday morning. My VC 460 was delivered friday while I was at work. It was late october so it was dark early in 2014 or maybe the test run would have been made saturday. Have fun.

Thanks a ton for making that video and sharing your experience. I think I'm about to head down that road. I have a TXT with a 5 or 6 inch lift and 22" tires, and the stock robin engine and it just can't get it done. I have replaced the driven clutch spring and put on a shorter belt and just can't get the torque up to get it to climb a hill, not even a small one.

Yes I'm as surprised as you are :) I'm going to call Vegas today. Pretty sure I'm going with the 625 kit complete with motor. I'm also going to pay a little extra for the wiring harness - I think for me it will be worth it. I'm nowhere near your skill level. I actually did it over the course of two days. Took the rear seat kit and maintenance panel off on Saturday afternoon, took the motor out Sunday morning. Started around 9 and was finished around noon. I was in no hurry and was taking video. No way I can install at your speed - I'm hoping to get it done over the course of two weekends. I wish we were neighbors :)

I do have a couple of questions before I get started - would it be better for me to start another thread in the Big Block section?

@gunwhatgun you're welcome. Just thought I'd give a little back to the site and hopefully help some folks in the process. I also have a 4" lift (I think) and am running 22" tires. No issues with hills though - I'm in the flatlands of Florida :)

You will probably get more viewers and maybe some that have done the exact swap you are doing. I agree with getting the wiring kit as most of the questions about installing the 625 involved wiring issues. It is nice they made up a wiring harness.

There's a hill in Florida. I remember it well because when I first moved to cocoa beach I had a 4 cylinder jeep wrangler on 33" tires. I would have to shift from 5th down into 3rd gear to maintain 50mph going up that sucker. 4th would still lose speed but not as much as 5th would

Ok, "technically" it was a "bridge" going over the river... but the story above is true none the less

Thanks RJ for doing the video...while pulling one of these is pretty straight forward, it helped to see it done prior to pulling one. Mine came out, one man job, basic tools and ability to turn a wrench without a hitch in about an hour...first time doing it. Half of my time was figuring out where my tools were, and pulling two of the motor mount bolts, one forward, one rearward. Definitely an advantage to have a ratcheting 16mm box end wrench for those...only 16mm sockets I had were 1/2 drive and the wrench doesn't fit. Takes some time with partial turns and a standard box end. Now to pull the motor apart and see if its repairable, or if I am going big block, then which one. We will see. Cheers for the help!
