Default 2002 Refresher EH35C rebuild

New project
I have no use for a refresher cart but I’ll find some use for a stretched cart... don’t know what it might be...

Gonna have to rebuild the EH35C... any suggestions on the best place to source parts would be appreciated

I thought about putting some upgrade motor in it but I’m thinking it would be more desirable with a healthy original

Overall the cart’s in good shape but everything in the engine compartment came in a box... Box jobs is my specialty but this is my first gasser so I’m gonna be needing some help/pictures

I’d like to have the specs on this motor but I haven’t been able to find them yet. I’m trying to decide whether it would be worth oversizing the pistons while I’m in here

Thanks in advance for the help

Crappy picture but it’s the only one I have so far

I'm about to take on a similar task with my 295. Its got a knock after being run dry on oil. I know I'll at least need rods and pistons. Hopefully the crank shaft and bearings are good. I plan to just pick up a kit off of ebay that includes everything I'll need. If the cylinders need boring, I will go oversize and have my machine shop clean them up, otherwise I will go standard pistons and run a hone thru it.

Pull out the camshaft and inspect the cam and the head very closely, paying particular attention to the timing belt side of the motor. When they run low on oil, this spot in the head where the cam rides is usually the first place to get damage. It will gall out and score the journal where the cam rides. To date, I still can't figure out exactly how oil gets in there but it must!

IF there's scoring in the head there, measure very very carefully. Too much clearance and oil pressure will suffer and the head is junk.

.

I have found that if the engine was run without oil it trashes the cylinder head and camshaft, maybe even the rocker arms. CP241 posted at the same time as me but he also knows what I know about what can happen with no oil and these cheap parts. These Pre-MCI engines oil different to cam and rockers. Like CP241 the MCI engines have a strange oil system where cam runs. Hard to see how the MCI gets any oil to end of camshaft . I don't know which one you got being you posted on another post

I’m working on rebuilding this motor and I’ll have a few questions... first one being... Does it matter which way the new pistons go in? They’re marked BF and DF... I’m drawing a blank and I don’t remember how I pulled em out

I do have a pre-MCI head if yours is questionable. New intake valves and valve seals from the dealer. .supposed to be a considerable HP upgrade over the 350 head.
