Clicks no start
2006 TXT turns over maybe one out of twenty-five attempts. Battery is good and fully charged and fuse is good. I tested the starter solenoid and it seems to be fine. I hear a click when the gas pedal is pressed to engage starter even when it doesn't turn over. The click comes from the area where the solenoid is. Any thoughts on what I am missing?

Re: Clicks no start
Run a jumper cable from the positive battery post to the starter. Does it turn over? If no, check the brushes of the starter.
If yes, move the jumper cable to the solenoid. You are bypassing the positive battery cable. Step on the pedal. Does it turn over now? If yes, replace the positive battery cable. If no, check, and clean all of the grounding points. |

Re: Clicks no start
I pulled one of the rubber inspection caps to look at the brush. It is barely above being flush with the top of the slot it seats in, maybe the thickness of a thin piece of cardboard like a soda box. I'm not sure if that amount of wear would cause issues since it isn't recessed.
One odd thing is that tonight I connected a cable from the battery positive to the starter positive. It arched enough to melt the battery terminal edge some. I'm not sure of what this wire is called but it's the short one that connects to two posts on the starter. If I connect the cable from the battery to it, it does the slow intermitent turn-over that I described in the last post. Sent from my SM-T710 using Tapatalk |
