Here's my story
I hope this info helps someone down the line. I have a 95 workhorse that I have been trying to work on in my spare time. The main problem has been a very slow start which slowly speeds up and eventually reaches a top speed of 25 miles an hour. I noticed that if I pulled the choke it sped up a little quicker so I mistakenly thought that the cart was not getting enough gas. I tried everything, changed the fuel filter, cleaned the tank, checked the fuel pump, cleaned the carb 5 times, adjusted the valves 3 times, new air filter and the cart worked better but not great.
During this time I had a charging problem so I ended up rewiring the altenator and replacing the battery and the voltage regulator. Also my electric dump stopped working but it was fixed by spraying connection cleaner on all the connections. The dump still does not work with a load of dirt in the back so I will eventually change it out for a stronger actuator. After loading the cart with dirt I had to push the cart while my wife stepped on the gas to get the cart going (yes, my wife helped shovel the dirt, gotta luv her). This got me thinking about the cart not having enough torque. After looking up the info on this site (thanks ruredy) I decided to take the driven clutch off and take it apart. 3 days later after hitting it with a rubber mallet to take it off the cart (splines rusted) and beating all the dirt and grime off, soaking it in WD40 for 2 days and beating it with a small sledge hammer the clutch finally came apart. I don't know what the inside of the driven clutch is supposed to look like but I know that this is not Ideal. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] So now I am shopping for a new driven clutch, Since I have to buy a new one I am going to go with the 28 degree clutch and I see that EAST COAST CUSTOM GOLF CARTS has them on ebay for $224.95 free shipping and including a heavy duty belt. This seems to be a good price compared to others on ebay and other golf cart sites and They have a very good reputation on this site. Hopefully this solves all my engine problems and I will eventually get that lift and bigger tires for more ground clearance for the pot holes. While I wait on the clutch the next task will be to figure out why the dang lights have stopped working and how to avoid the cops who now say they will give out $124 tickets to anyone caught driving golf carts or ATV's on the dirt roads back in my area. |

Re: Here's my story
Glad to hear you got it all figured out, well except for the police problem. Carts are legal in my state on secondary roads, that is with the $5 sticker of course but...... I was doing a bunch of reading on farm vehicles and utv's and in this state there is an obscure law that says as long as your vehicle does not go over 35mph has the triangle safety placard an has a mounted shovel and a axe it's considered a farm vehicle and is legal to drive on roads. at least that's what I remember it saying, I may be off a little or forgot something else but I do remember if I mounted an axe and a shovel on my cart, it falls right in that category. go figure It's kinda a mute point since carts are legal here anyway but maybe your state has a loop hole law that will let you drive "your farm vehicle" on the road legal.

Re: Here's my story
I looked in the Sec Of State for mich & this is what I found
" Such a vehicle, referred to in the Vehicle Code as an "implement of husbandry," is any of the following: (1) a farm tractor, (2) a vehicle designed to be drawn by a farm tractor or an animal, (3) a vehicle that directly harvests farm products, or (4) a vehicle that directly applies fertilizer, spray, or seeds to a farm field. " Not sure how to get a GC in under this defintiion. I was riding my cart on the back roads up by Gladwin last year & a local told me the cops were giving out tickets, so I put it back on the trailer. I didn't have an ORV sticker or anything. |

Re: Here's my story
Just words on paper right now, it started off good with Ideas on where to meet and decals and such but life happened and things became sidetracked. So right now it is located in the pages of BGW.

Re: Here's my story
Just hang one of those ATV fertilzer sprayers on it someplace, throw a little coloered water in it and there you go.

Love it!!! I'm from the "Show-Me" state of Mo. Show-me we don't drive our carts in the farm fields.
