battery problems on my ez go gas
I am having trouble with something running my battery down on my cart. After riding for a while around my neighborhood, sometimes when I come to a stop sign ( and my cart come to a complete stop) my battery seems to have gone down all the way. It doesnt have the power to turn over my motor to get it to start. The only thing I have hooked to them is a set of head lights. Any ideas what may be causing this? Short somewhere? generator or altenator?

Re: battery problems on my ez go gas
Yes.....what is voltage reading when sitting and what is it when running?
That test right there will tell you if the charging system is working. |

Re: battery problems on my ez go gas
12v is empty = charge it up
And 5v is that running!? or just the draw from the starter? you may have worn starter brushes. You have cleaned all connections and tugged all cables to check for a weak or loose connection? |

Re: battery problems on my ez go gas
what year cart and how old is the battery? load test your battery or swap it for a known good one first. search out how to test the charging system in this board. there is much info about it. you could jack up the cart and check how much voltage is being put out by the generator when the cart is running, should be 14-18 volts if my memory serves me right.

Re: battery problems on my ez go gas
sound like a bad v/r, volts when it's running should be 14v-15v
with the battery charged, start it up and have it running in neutral or on jack stands knowing what model cart it is would be nice. |

Re: battery problems on my ez go gas
It is a 2003 cart. Being fairly new I wouldn't think it would be the starter/generator. How long are those usually good for?

Quote:
Ground the DF terminal on the start/gen (the green wire). start it up and measure the volts at the battery If volts are 16v+ you have a bad V/R If your cart was a course cart and run a couple rounds of golf each day it was used, 5 starts/stops a hole. say it was only used for 250 days out of a year, that's around 45,000 start/stops a year. average lease, 3 years, it can add up pretty quick. so the term "fairly new" seems meaningless when looking at numbers like that. |
