Drive Clutch slipping

Just had Cart Parts Plus put in a new spring and machine the driven clutch on my 89 2 cycle. When I put it back on, it seems like the drive clutch isn't engaging the belt properly. I can watch the drive clutch move in, engine revvs way high, then finally engages the belt way up close to the top of pulley after it slips for a long time. Have a newer 1 1/4" belt on that worked good before rebuilding driven clutch. Sooo, my question is could the re-worked driven clutch be creating more resistance than previous that's making the drive clutch not engage properly/slip? Will I have to get the drive clutch rebuilt now? I was trying to get a little more low end power by rebuilding driven clutch....sometimes when things ain't broke I should leave them alone I guess.

I would think that'll come around a work right. the only difference you would see in the drive clutch is where the belt starts out on the sheaves. maybe take a little sandpaper to scuff up the sheaves a bit, the belt has probably never ridden on that part of the clutch before.

Did you have the driven machined for MORE torque (low end) ?

Yes, I did have it machined for more torque (low end).

It is supposed to rev higher BEFORE engaging .... That is what gives you more power on take off.

Is this what is happening or a misspeak, the belt must be riding very low in the driven.
