marathon clutch/belt help please
Hi all. I am trying to diagnose a problem with my Sons 93 Marathon 2 stroke. It has a lift with 22" tires and is otherwise stock. The drive belt is a
ezgo car 22337-g1 dayco. The engine starts, the starter belt is good, and the clutch spins, but the drive belt does not turn. He said it ran well the last time he used it. Today He took it out of the shed, drove it 50 feet or so and stopped it for a minute because it seemed to have less power than normal. He stated everything looked normal and proceeded to start it back up. At this point, it will not move. We have had the cart 2 years and have not changed the belt. What can I have him look at or check? Does it sound like it needs a new belt? Its not broken, and I would not think it would fail all of a sudden. Will the clutch go all of a suddden? Any help would be greatly appriciated. I am away for work and wont be home until Sat. I would like to have the parts ordered if I need any so they will be there when I get home. Thanks |

Re: marathon clutch/belt help please
is the drive clutch closing completely? Remove the belt jack up the cart and check to make sure the rear end is not locked up. should be able to spin the driven clutch with your hand.

The rear end is not locked up. Looking at the drive clutch, I should be able to see it move when it is spinning? Will the part that the belt sits in get narrower?
Thanks |

Re: marathon clutch/belt help please
Yes, the pulley the belt sits in will get narrower with engine rpm and then get wider as the engine slows.

Re: marathon clutch/belt help please
so if the pully does not get narrower, should I get a new clutch? Can it be changed with the motor in the cart?
Thanks |

Re: marathon clutch/belt help please
it can be changed in the cart, you will need a puller and follow the directions in the tech thread at the top of this board. The front or drive clutch cannot close on the belt and draw it upward if the driven clutch or rear one wont open and allow the belt to draw down into it. does that make sense?
