87 EZ GO Gas will not start
This forum looks very helpful, I hope it can help me too. I have an 87 EZ Go gas cart that I can not seem to get started. It would start with WD40, but the carb was pouring gas out and I lost spark. I have installed a new carb, new coil, wire and plug. I am getting spark to the plug, getting gas to the carb. It will barely sputter once in awhile. will not crank. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Joe

Re: 87 EZ GO Gas will not start
Welcome to BGW Joe,
Have you checked the compression on the top end? You also need to make sure you have good crank seals in it. Grab the crankshaft and try to move both sides up and down. Even the slightest movement will suggest at least new seals. Even a new top end but bad seals will make you pull your hair out! |

Thanks crash12888 I will check the seals and compression. What should the min compression ratio be? Thanks again. Joe

Re: 87 EZ GO Gas will not start
when it is sputtering is the plug wet with gas or dry? You could pull the fuel pump and inject some smoke into the hole that is in the crankcase. If any comes around the seals then they are leaking. Also could check the reed valves.

Re: 87 EZ GO Gas will not start
thanks, i will check that. i have had a wet plug, but pulled it sunday & it was dry. i pulled the fuel line to make sure it was pumping, was good. i'm going to check the float bowl to make sure the gas is getting thru the carb.
