Default fuel problem??? wont' run unless choked

My 2002 EZ GO won't run unless I choke it. I drained the fuel filter and tried to start the the fuel doesn't even get pulled up into the filter. When I choke it you can see small amount being drawn into the filter and the cart will run.

Cart was running fine and this happened all of a sudden. Gas tank is about half full.

Is this a carb problem? Fuel pump problem? or something else.

Thanks in adavance for you help

Check and make sure your vent in the gas cap is not clogged if thats
fine pull the fuel line off the carb and put it in a container of some sort
and try and start it there should gas free flowing it might take alittle while
if nothing it mightbe your fuel pump also check and make sure the the
the pickup line in the fuel tank didnt fall off..Good Luck

I had the gas cap off when checking things out and it did not make a difference.

Why would it draw gas from the tank when choking but not when the choke is not being used.

it doesnt matter about the why, just pull the line from the carb and crank it to see if it is pumping. If it is then its a carb issue. If not then fuel pump or possibly a leaking pump vacuum line not able to pulse crankcase pressure to the pump.

Qoute from Alfred, Lord Tennyson poem "The Charge Of The Light Brigade"

Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,

I was just trying to learn something! Make it logical for me!!

The cart is down at my rivercamp so I won't be able to check on it till at least Wenesday and possibly Saturday.

Looks like the vacuum line is similar to the fuel line. Can I just go ahead and by some generic fuel line and replace everything while I'm doing this? I assume the ethanol is messing with the rubber anyway.

lol...... no problem......yep use generic line of the correct i.d. and check that pump. I can only guess that closing the choke helps pull the fuel into the carb due to a malfunctioning fuel pump. Could be a dirty carb tho. Should be easy to diagnose. keep us posted.

thanks,
one thought I had was when the tank was full the fuel is basically above the carb and it is easier to get gas over to the carb. But now that the gas is down to at least half the pump has to work to get it over there and it can't do the job.

Would it make sense to go ahead and get new pump or rebuild kit? Will I have to repair it sometime in the future anyway?

thats a thought but I would test it just to be sure. I would replace it instead of the cheap repair kit.

Think I would pick one up to take with me if I only got to work on it at the camp. Think they are about $50 bucks. Try everything else first and as a last resort, hook it up.

Something we have seen lately is the fuel line breaking down and sending small pieces of rubber into the carb. It might be time to pull the carb and blast all the innerds with some Berrymans B-12! Then replace all your fuel lines...
