hey everyone, i am new to golf carts. i have been fooling with cars for a long time. i am building a ez go as my primary off road vehicle. first question, how do i get that engine pumping out maximum horse power? i put a new air cleaner on it, i want to bore it out .50 over. can you mill the head down on those 2 strokes? i would like to mill the head down. has anyone done that? is there any type of exhaust i could put on it?
it is sitting on a 11" lift right now fabricated by me, i have a welder and plan on fabricating an independant front suspension, aswell as dropping the mounts down for the rear swing arm to minimumize the angle that it is at. once i make the suspension i would like to bring out the front wheels 3" on each side and use wheel spacers to space the rear out 2" i will be posting pictures as i go by, i just bought a new sand blaster for this project. thanks for any help |

First off, welcome to the forum!! It is good to see other members with old 2-stroke EZGO's! I too have one and they are tanks.
.50 over for the piston is good and I think you can mill the head, but not too much. Since it is a 2-stroke, you can't do much with the exhaust. The engine requires a certain amount of back pressure to run correctly. If you can get your hands on a 1988 muffler (High Output), it should help some. Good to hear you are replacing the suspension for off-road use. It looks pretty dangerous now! Good work so far, I am looking forward to seeing your progress! |

thanks man i really appreciate the info. i just started dissambly today i removed everything but the bare rolling chassis. tomorrow i will be sand blasting the frame and underside of the body. here are some pix of the engine and cart, the rear end is currenty rigid because i used that tube as a mock up for the height i want to get out of it.
![]() i will be lowering it a few inches as well as widening it out and putting bigger and wider tires on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() i am a senior in high school and will be building the engine up in highschool advanced auto's class. i will media blast all the parts that i can, and will repaint everything. |

Yes, I believe that is the one. Sorry for the delay. It is basically free-er flowing. I have also heard that port polishing can help some too.
As for the year... there should be a plate under the dash on the passenger side. Post those numbers. |
