Default Doing top end on 2 stroke - Which way to mount piston on rod? What assembly lube?

Hi everyone, first post.
Background: I bought a 1979 ez-go cart and barely could move forward on its own power. It had more power going in reverse. Did a compression check, 105 Psi. So i have started taking the engine down, and I notice the piston seems to be facing the wrong direction according to how the manual says to reassemble. I got the rebuild manual off of here, its dated 1983. So how should i reassemble? There are pics attached which may explain better.

Also, I should ask what most of you use to lubricate the parts before you put them back together? 2 stroke oil?

looks backwards to me, there should be an arrow on top of the piston! that arrow should point towards to the exhaust. the hole in the skirt is to draw fuel in from the carb.

my two cents

x3 and just use 2 stroke oil to lube it all.
