Default Whats wrong? TC or clutch bad?

Here's what I have... 1989 EZGO 2 cycle with 22"x11x8" tires. I just put a new belt on it that's for this model, I did not toy with any other belt. The sheaves are smooth and not grooved and also clean, not greasy. If you just stomp the gas, it slips something, I can't see if it's the belt or what. If you pedal back, let it grab, she drives fine and goes pretty good. Also, slow speed, barely moving, it's fine. Just hard acceleration is slippy. Secondly, if you are moving decently, and you let off, and coast, you feel it "downshift". That's very noticeable. Can somebody tell me whats up? Thanks.

It's a little cold natured and when it's turning over, it'll creep if you don't have your foot on the brake... Also, is there a special tool needed to pull that clutch apart and peek to see what is up?

Hey Mopar,
These carts have two clutches. If your cart creeps before it starts the drive clutch is closing on the belt too soon or not reopening from the last run. The drive clutches require a puller to remove and service.
If you are already driving up a hill and it starts slipping it is USUALLY the driven or rear clutch. This is the clutch that will give you the downshift sensation. Which is normal.
Sounds like the spring or other parts in the front (drive) clutch have failed. This and the driven clutch need to have a balance for them to work together correctly. If the drive clutch is operating correctly the downshift is not very noticable. Now we need to find you a puller....

Is there a group puller? I know with Mopars, our website has a group puller and we just mail it around. I'd pay a small fee to borrow and mail back somebody's. My brother in law drove my Cart tonight and he got a hundred feet away and just floored it... It either slipped the heck out of the clutch, or, locked itself in "low".... Either way, it was a lot of RPMS and Not much go go. I did not smell anything smoked, particularly the belt. It was not slipping by the lack of rubber smell. Can I buy clutch parts and shoes or do I need to buy a whole new unit? The same for the rear pulley, can it be rebuilt?

Parts are still available. Unless there's a lot of damage they can be rebuilt.

Is it difficult to rebuild them? I am mechanically inclined, however I have never dealt with any cart drive lines..
