Stock tire size
I have an '89 EZ GO Marathon 2-stroke. Is the stock tire size 18x8.5-8? It currently has 18x8.5-8 on the front and 20x8-8 on the back. I need to replace the rear tires - one won't hold air, and want to see what I can put on it. Since it has trouble on hills, I figure going with stock would be best. What width options will work on the stock rim? I'm looking locally (Agrisupply has some that might work) and just want to be able to pick up something that will fit on there (for cheap).

Re: Stock tire size
OK, well, I found some 18x8.5-8 tires at AgriSupply today, so now the front and rear are actually the same size. I am guessing the 20's that were on there are at least part of the reason why it has trouble climbing hills, but I can't find that out until I get the clutch back on .... again.

Re: Stock tire size
That's a good choice for a two cycle. The 2" diameter difference translates to about "6 less tire to spin per revolution. You'll have higher rpm at a lower speed. 2 strokes like the higher rpm. Good Luck with the clutch..

Re: Stock tire size
Thanks. I had never thought about this before, 'cause I never really noticed the different tire size. Hopefully I can fix the stripped out clutch bolt (and probably some damage to the shaft), and enjoy the new power!

Re: Stock tire size
Yeah, it only took me about 4 hours to change our 2 tires, because I didn't realize that I could have brought the tires and wheels with my to AgriSupply, and gotten them mounted for $6 each.

Re: Stock tire size
Those are tough if you don't have the stand to hold them, or the long tire irons. Not an easy "at home" job by any means. Congratulations! I've done a few like that, NOT fun.
