Default 11hp workhourse running bad

I have a 2003 workhourse that is giving me fits. It runs good at low speed but when the throttle is wide open it acts like it is starving for fuel. I checked the filter and pump and they are good. I changed the carb from a working cart and it did not help. The compression is good and it is firing like it should. It cuts in and out when I hold the pedal down. I disconnected the governor to try and eliminate things and same thing. I removed the muffler and tried it and same thing. It acts like a car that is lean. The gas is fresh also. I set the valves to 004. Nothing so far I have done has helped. Any tips on what to check next.

Check the color of your plugs. That will ususally tell you something. The problem you describe is usually corrected by what you've already been done. The next thing to look at would be the plugs, plug wires and coils. Let us know about the plugs.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

An afterthough...be sure you have a clear vent in the fuel cap. That can create a vacuum.

The spark plugs are light Grey in color. It is running lean. This cart runs just like a car that has the timing retarded. It shoots a flame back out the carb at times when starting. What advances the timing on a Robbins ? Is it built into the ignitor ? Everything has been checked that I can think of. Gas tank cap replaced from working cart also. The gas looks good and no water in it. I retested the compression and both cylinders show 160. I tried a known good working carburetor and same thing. I tried a new coil with new wires and no help. I tried a different ignitor, same problem. I removed the cover and checked the timing belt and it is in time. This cart runs good at low speeds. When it is first started it spits back out the intake through the carburetor. I have to choke it to make it run. I can run it for a while and then stop. When I start it right back and push the pedal to the floor it will just spin over and not start. I can let off the gas just a small amount and it starts. I know the carburetor is good because I removed it from a running 11 hp and that cart would take the gas perfect. The only other thing I can think of is maybe the intake valves are worn and pulled into the seat ? Not sure if a compression test would show me this. I have not done a leak down test and when I find my hose I will try that. Any tips on this is appreciated. trig

You have eliminated everything but the coil and the igniter from the equation?

The coil is not the problem. As I stated in my previous post I replaced the ignition coil. I also replaced the Pulsar coil and set the air gap to about 028. I installed a good ignitor and same thing. If I ever get the clutch off I will check the timing marks to make sure this thing is in time. I may just remove the engine, I know I could see it then.

You could have a suction leak between the pump and the tank. Many time I have run a car on a jug of gas under the hood.I would try this with a new fuel line hose so you could eliminate the fuel tank as the problem.Just be careful as not to burn your cart down. GOOD LUCK,CRAIG...
