Newbie with a workhorse!
Ok So i just got a 99 workhorse 1200 with a 350 robin. it is rough but i think i can get going but i need some info. first of all is it a 12 volt system, second can the starter/ generator be rebuilt, and what would cause one to run "fine but doesnt have the power to pull a steep hill????"
any help is appreciated. im in Abilene, tx so i can get parts fairlyeasily from Dallas just need to know what to get. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
It is a 12V system. I would start by giving it a good tuneup. Adjust the valves and clean the carb. new fuel filter and oil change with filter. air filter and new plugs. check the belt for wear, should measure 1 3/16" wide. also if the starter is acting up.....sticking in some spots, it may only need new brushes for less than 20 bucks.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
you could also grab a compression tester and see what shes putting out so you have a baseline to go off of. Just because it wont't pull a hill doesnt mean its not capable.....one other thing, clean the cooling fan and air passages around the head. It will greatly extend the life of the engine.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
look up top of the gas ezgo board and you will see the tech thread. in it you can go to the manual diagram etc thread and download the service technicians manual which will give you what you need for compression etc. also check the valve adjusting thread where ruredy has a good method thats super easy to get em right.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
K. I will. i have som plans for it. i am gonna build a lift for it. Put some good larger tires, and i would like to bump the power a little or go with a bigger drive pulley or both. i want it to be able to go where i need it to on the deer lease for my uncle and Dad. neither can get around that well but love to hunt. so this is my way to help.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
you could put some lumberjacks or mudbusters on there and be all set to hunt. the 350 is a good engine. look around the differential side of the back clutch and you will find either a 36 or 28. these numbers indicate whether you have a 36 or 28 degree clutch. the 28 has more bottom end. read thru the clutch thread in tech and it will explain that. also go with the shorter belt. it will really help the bigger tires hook up and pull.

Re: Newbie with a workhorse!
I too am a newbie with a workhorse. I just joined today as I noticed this is an active thread and I have so much in common with the thread starter.
I have posted my intro in the Introduction forum. Basically, I recently aquired my first golf cart: a Workhorse 1200G LX totally stock. It has been in the weather for at least the past year and despite a charged battery and new plugs the starter can't seem to get the engine to fire. I am here and following this thread but if I have my own questions, I will try and post them to a new thread based on relevance. Thanks all SQLPoet Last edited by SQLPoet; 10-29-2009 at 10:26 AM..
