newbie questions 1992 twin cylinder
Hi,
seems like a great website with some good info. I just purchased my 1st golf cart for pit riding at my kids motocross racing. I have some questions. model # g1792 I believe its a 1992 - correct? It has a metal body - is it a medalist? if not what is it? a twin cylinder not sure of size? - how do I know the size cc? It is very sluggish but I think I found the problem. Only half of the coil is firing. I swapped the good coil wire to the other cylinder and it fired. So I figure half the coil is bad. Anyone ever had a coil do this? I ordered another one. The way its wired seems that both leads fire at the same time correct? do both cylinders compress at the same time and fire at the same time? just currious. are these motors pretty powerful for a golf cart? I am going to fix it up and maybe lift it. Is this a pretty good cart? any other ifo or tips to do on this are welcome. |

Re: newbie questions 1992 twin cylinder
Hi, welcome, Your cart is a 1992 Marathon that has a 295cc 9hp robins twin cylinder 4 stroke, should be stamped at the base of the engine eh29, If it says eh35, then your engine has been replaced with a robin 350cc engine. this should also be on the engine tag. Unless changed this model has no rev limiter built in the igniter. The coil can and does fail in this manner sometimes, it does fire both plugs at the same time but the pistons are 180deg off in their cycles. Its a very smooth running engine but will run like crap with only a single cylinder firing

The Marathon E-Z-GOs are probably the easiest car to work on.. Doing anything to it, shouldn't be to terribly hard for you.

Welcome and nice cart. These are good carts and seem to hold up really well.

Re: newbie questions 1992 twin cylinder
My boys race in the CRA and we raced a few AMA qualifiers last year. My older boy raced Super Mini and Junior Mini and my younger boy raced 65cc and Junior Mini. We are in northern Ohio. Just got my boy a RMZ250 he is 13yrs and now he might be done with the mini's.
I got the new coil for the cart and adjusted the governor in and it halls now. Seems to run good but it is very cold out to be running a golf cart up and down the street. Neighbors think I'm nuts. Thanks Brian |

Re: newbie questions 1992 twin cylinder
I live like 20 min west of cleveland. I have a jeep wrangler with a plow on it and everything else I own is 4 wheel drive. So the snow is fun!!
I have another question: I just lifted the rear 4"s by welding spacers on the top of the spring bump stop and put longer shocks on. Now I am going to work on the front tomorrow. Is there any easy way of doing it without messing up the steering and wheel toe in? Thanks for the help Brian |
