Default 2 stroke ezgo losing power

I just bought my first 2 stroke ezgo cart (year 1980 something). It starts up ok, runs really good for about 50 feet or so and then loses power and barely moves and then goes really good again and keeps repeating like this. My husband and I are not mechanical but there is someone we can bring this to. He had just replace the solenoid (sp?) because it had the wrong one on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. This is going to be a Christmas present for our daughter. Thanks! Renee

Welcome to the forum, that will be a nice christmas present,
do you think that you can fix it?-it could be a few things
dirty carb
dirty or bad fuel pump
dirty gas filter
crack in gas line, and, and,
*
what year is it, if you look on the passenger side in the glove box or under, post the numbers on the plate,
and if you can't fix it and want to take it to some one we need to know where you live it's a big world out there-??-

I agree. Start with the fuel filters(s) and check the fuel lines for leaks. You might also check that the cap is venting correctly. You can check that by loosening is a turn and then trying it. Is the gas new or old?
