Default Problem starting my Marathon when cold

I started having problems with my Marathon. I need to press the gas peddle for around 5 minutes before it finally starts. I have been reading and realized the problem could be I need an adjustment on my valves. can someone tell me how to do this. is it a difficult thing to do or do i just need to purchase the tool to measure how tight the valves are after I remove the black cover. can someone tell me how to do this?

They should be at .004 about the thickness of two sheets of paper
when completely off lobe.

Most people use a feeler guage, blade variety.

If it's just when it's cold, it wouldn't seem to be the valve adjustment..but I could be wrong. I'd say it's in the carb..but I am researching that
myself now, trying to find out about adjustment.

Does the choke work? Check the basics first and maybe save a lot of time...

The choke doesnt seem to do anything to help. I found the thread with the instructions on how to adjust the valves. I will try that soon.

thanks guys

I would look in the end of the carb and make sure when the knob is pulled the choke plate closes. If it runs fine warm it's not the valves.
