i just installed a shorter belt on my 85 ezgo faster in rev. than forward anybody know why

You probably have higher compression in reverse. If it is a big difference, might be time for a re-build.

Check with one of the companies in my signature for a rebuild kit. I would HIGHLY recommend one of those guys because their parts are of such high quality. BU parts just flat-out DO NOT WORK. Do NOT get it from BU because what you already have is better.

I would start with a compression test, just to see what the readings are in forward Vs. Reverse. I had the same issue with my 77 (similar engine) and ended up rebuilding just the top end. It was easy and brought new life back to my cart!
