Default Engine stalling at high rpm

Have an '83 EZGO Marathon that is cutting out at hight rpm. Gov. is removed. Only happens when I am going down a hill and the rpm's get in the higher end. Don't seem to be ext. high though. The engine just dies and the cart wants to stop. If i let up on the throttle it will start running again. If i keep my foot on the throttle after it dies it will cut in and out. It will die, then run then die then run, until i let off the throttle for a little. I was thinking I need an adjustment on the high speed needle in the carb. Almost seems like it is flooding. I also noticed my rear sheave on my driven clutch is dented. Like it was hit by something underneath and bent. I know I am loosing a good bit here, and plan to replace, but would that make it lock up? It is not too bad, but know on the Yami G16's it doesn't take much to affect them. Any help would be much appriciated.

Sounds like the engine is bumping the rev limiter.

does the '83 have a rev limiter? I thought it didn't. That is exactly what it feels like though.

I am sure my 88 dosn't have a rev limiter. Could be micro switch on pedal.I also have my govner removed and have had it wound up pretty good and have had no problums like that.Just a blowen head gasket. Good luck.

did that last time it did it. It had a little oil on it but nothing out of the ordinary for a 2 stroke i didn't think. Possibly a little to rich. I did just pick up a hotter plug to try. It had a ngk with a 6 heat. I am going to run a BP4HS and see if that helps. Haven't changed the plug since i picked it up either so it needs done for sure. I did pull the plug out last night though and the plug was pretty oily. After i pulled it on the side of the trail (the time mentioned above), i ran it on the trails the rest of the night, and haven't checked it again until last night. havent rode it since then either. I am running it around 60:1 though since we run them pretty hard so i figured i would be fouling a few.
