Default A few more kinks

Just when I thought it was running well my 244 robin dies on me. I stopped getting spark. Is there a way to test the ignition coil to determine if it's the problem as opposed to a different electrical component?

I'm also wondering if someone can post a clear picture of the cable linkages where they meet at the carb. There's a cable that leads to a spring loaded metal post with a silver nipple on the end. When the gas is depressed I believe it makes contact with a white part that would be similiar to a differential on a truck. Can someone better explain it's purpose and components involved. I'm not sure how it attaches to the linkage on the carb. I don't know what parts i need to purchase because I don't know what I need or what they are called.

Thanks again and everyones been great.

Mike I'm planning on making the purchase. I'm just trying to make sure I get everything I need at once.

THis sounds like the governor setup, as the clutch expands it pulls back on the throttle to slow you down...... No, you don't need it. I'd stick another coil on it to see if that's the problem. I believe on most of the 2 strokes you can get by with a universal automotive type. anyway I just find one to test with.

I don't have a problem purchasing a new coil from Mike. I just want to make sure it's bad. Are there any other components that would cause it from getting spark? If the most likely cause is the coil I'll just replace it.

The coil should have 12 volts on the positive side of the coil when cranking or running. I always use a 12 volt test light to check this. Now on the other terminal, the negative side of the coil. The test light should pulse on and off when cranking. If your getting a pulsing light and no spark the coil is bad. If you get no pulse the problem is elsewhere. Could be a pulser coil or a ignition module. I rarely see a bad coil, but you never know.

I became anxious and had to give a try right away. I'm not sure if I tested it correctly. I took a 12v light tester and placed it on the green wire that comes out of the ignition coil. That wire is connected to a silver component that has lots of other wires connected to it as well. The light came on and stayed consistent while cranking. Then I placed the light tester on the orange wire. I had a bad connection on that wire so I just sodered the two wires together. Anyhow, I tested it at that sodered point and once again had a consistent light with NO pulsing. Then I tested for spark and like before NO spark. What does this tell me? Bad Coil or did I mess up testing it?
Thanks

Was the cart running OK, then all of a sudden quit? When testing the wires to the coil you saw a solid light on your test light on both wires? ?

Hey Mike, I'm trying to figure this problem out so I can place an order. lol
Yes, I finally had the cart running good and then I still ended up pushing it home. Not sure if I tested it correctly but the light was solid on both wires. NO spark.

I've been attacking it in steps being careful to not throw too much money at something thats not worth it. I got it for free from a friend and it already had a four inch lift. I tore the carb and fuel pump apart and they were super clean and the engine compression tested at 125-130. BBQ the muffler ditched the oil injection and it was running great. Up and down the street and then just died.
