offset rims and tires
can someone help me understand how offset rims are measured? I have a 4 in lift on my cart and i would like to put bigger tires on, but the rear end tires would hit the frame because of the width of the tire . how much off set do you need to eliminate this?

Re: offset rims and tires
those should fit with no problems, if the rims didn't have the offset the tires would rub your coil springs and engine cradle frame

Re: offset rims and tires
I would take off one of your old wheels and measure the offset. Measure from the face that bolts onto the hub to the inside edge of the rim. If your wheel has a designation of 2+5 that means there will be 2 inches from the inside rim edge to the bolting face and there will be 5 inches from the outside rim edge to the bolt face and the wheel will have and overall width of 7 inches. Then determine how much wider the tire is than the wheel. Then measure the clearance you have now between the tire and inside body work.
You now have a reference to work with. If, for example, you use your existing tire on a 3+4 wheel that means your tire would then be 1 inch closer to the frame. If you find you can't fit a wider wheel/tire combo with available wheels and tires you might have to buy spacers to space the wheel out even further. I have seen 1 inch and 2 inch spacers but I'm sure there are more. Good luck Fred Mc. |
