Old Dana Spicer axle removal.
I'm new here but not to mechanical work.I've put a 225 yamaha shaft drive on an old ezgo.It is too slow with the gears in the rear and want to change them.I have another rear almost like it also a Dana(except this one is 6 to 1) that I'm wanting to take the gears from and put in the one on the cart.My problem is I haven't been able to figure out how to pull the axles to get the gear out.Can anyone help me out on what I need to do?Do I have to take hub off and push axle in to get to the lock?Hub is stuck and didn't have any luck getting it off before dark caught me.Thanks for any response.

Yes it is an older one not sure but probably early 80's.The rear is built like the rear wheel drive car one's.The one I'm trying to get out had disc brake mounted on front of rear with the clutch.

Re: Old Dana Spicer axle removal.
thanks Rib but that's not the right one.Mine doesn't have brakes on the hubs. They are just hubs that slide in splines with a keyway on the axle and the nut holds it on.

Re: Old Dana Spicer axle removal.
It sounds like the rear end was changed out at some point. As far as I know none of the older (2 stroke) carts used that kind of brake setup. The setup sounds more like an ATV rearend. I have an 88 marathon 2 stroke that I use and 2 older ezgo gas carts for parts, one of which is old enough to has the engine with the internal starter, and they all have rear drum breaks. Just a thought, not sure what kind of trans that 225 yamaha has but if it is not a full automatic you could try just shifting the gears on the motor setup. a picture of the set up would really help.

Re: Old Dana Spicer axle removal.
I have a simular situation. I have a 300 honda 4x4/Ezgo. I need 6.1 gears for the dana/spicer rearend. Mine has 12:44.1. Anybody got one laying around that ratio? Some of those rearends didn't have drum brakes on the hubs..
