Default 295-350cc swap

I just swapped out my 295 for a 350 cc. Any one have any advice on how to get the most reliable performance out of it? I have herd you can use the 295 head on the 350 for higher compression and gain some HP....

I posted this very same question in one of my first threads, the answer is yes. Of course the 350 is going to have a little more umph than the 295 but as it is your only dealing with 1 or 2 ponies diff. in the 2 motors. However, when i posted the 295 head swap to a 350 block I got good news. That being that i could increase the hp by 4 to 5 at a minimum. I never built the engine but was told that it works. I believe you have to use the 350 carb. but I know for sure that it works. There are some mixed feelings about tuned exhaust headers but that and some porting and polishing are the best power mods for your money. I got all this info. directly from this forum and have complete faith in all of it. I've yet to come across a problem the fine people at BGW couldnt help me with. I don't know if this helps but just hang in there, more replies and help is sure to come!!

There's a lot of things that can be done to the older style (pre'02) robin engine. If it is the newer MCI model, you are more limited. If it has a cast iron exhaust manifold, that bolts on the head you have the older style. If it is a single peice of aluminum that is part of the head you have the newer model. I just brought back a thread on modifying the MCI. The MCI is a better running stock engine than a 295 or older 350. They start faster and are as dependable as the older style. Modified 350 is a differnet story.
So far, no real good results have come from MCI modification that I know of. But, I'm not done

thanks for your input i will check the exhaust manifold to determine if it is the MCI model. I believe it is about a 02?

Thanks- so you still have the stock 350? Have you done any other mods besides belts and clutches that have proven themselves?

I have a 98 txt that came with a pre mci. I installed an mic engine that i am very happy with. I've had the 295 and the 350 and can tell a slight diff. The 28 degree clutch or a shorter belt is a good way to get low end power. However, your only dealin with a dozen or so hp so, you aint gonna be doin burnouts. There is always the big block ug. The sky is really the limit on these things, it just depends on what you want to spend.

I have just dropped the 350 MCI (i confirmed) into my cart. Off coarse it doesnt run. It sounds like I need a ignitor and coil adapter to make it run?

Also- do I understand that I need to do some modifying if I want to use my old 295 head?

Yes, some pretty in depth mods at that. Search the threads for can i modify MCI. I read the completer 63 page thread on this. It is an in depth mod but it is full of info. to mod the 350 MCI. Seems like the pistons on the MCI engines actually rose just above deck height and would hit the low cut 295 head and alot of milling was involved. Good luck though. Keep us posted. As far as getting what you got running you are going to need a MCI conversion to get the old ignition to work with the new MCI igniton system. Its simple, a pigtail, igniter, and the coil if you dont already have it. I have a txt with the same conversion, it was simple. Good Luck

Check site sponsors. Mikes Motor Toys is a good spot to start. You can probably PM Mike and tell him you are converting pre mci to mci and he will know where to take you. I am using the mci coil on mine. I dont know if the pre mci coil is compatible or not. The mci engine I got had the coil with it. Hit Mike up, he should be able to help with the conversion parts.
