I installed a new shorter belt, and tightened the governor spring, I GPS'ed the cart at 26 mph and that seems pretty good to me. My engine seems to be a little sluggish on take off, as if the engine is a little lean. I removed the plugs and inspected them, they are grayish white in color so that tells me that it could use a little more fuel. My next question is how to adjust this thing. Everything on the carb is covered up with a plate. There is a small black knob on top of the carb that I can see, but I'm not sure what it does. Oh btw, this is a '08 EZ GO TXT cart with 4" lift and 22x11x10 tires.

When I added a shorter belt on a txt I felt a little "hesitation" when first starting out, almost as if the clutch was spinning up a bit more before engaging. The guy I did it for didn't like it so we removed the belt and replaced the original, the problem was gone.

Mine is the other way... it won't rev up until you get it going. Maybe my clutch is engaging too soon. But it done this with the stock belt. Thinking it is more in the carb. Guess I'll try to pull these plates off and see what I can. There has to be a way to adjust these things.

Anyone know what the black knob on the top of the carb does?

I believe that little black knob is your air mixture for your carb... I don't think it has anything to do with total volume of fuel to the carb... Your only route would be to ream the jet out some or get a larger jet, maybe for the 350cc. However, jacking with the jet throws the mixture outa whack and it may become a headache... Not sure, but you might try it... My 98 txt revs high at first throttle but comes outa the shoot like a bullet with a shorter belt... It runs a flat 28 wide open and climbs like a cat!!!!

That is your low speed air fuel mixture screw. If you look closely at the black knob it should have a tab on it to keep it from turning to much.
Turn it counterclockwise 1/4 turn to give you more fuel on start up.
You might have to remove the tab from the knob to turn it that far.

I may try to mess with the low speed mixture. I messed with it some yesterday, and the problem may be the clutch. I seems to engage as soon as I give it any throttle. It don't allow the engine to rev at all before it starts pulling. I assume the only way to change that is in the clutch, with stiffer springs?

This is my first build and I am learning a lot on it. I'll try to get some pics soon.

It is doing exactly what the shorter belt is intended to do.
Grab in the drive clutch lower and sooner than having the engine rev up and close the clutch to take off.
My Yamaha actually starts rolling when I push the pedal but it also always fires and starts running within a couple of revolutions.
If the results are not what you expected, you might need to go back to the stock belt.
