Default 91 EZGO won't go, Where & how to look

My Son-in-law's 91 gas EZGO acts like the belt is missing. The motor runs fine and the belt actually looks pretty good but the cart won't move. It was running fine one minute and dead the next. Where should I start looking for the problem.

Thanks,

Mike

So the motor is running now but the cart is not moving? If the motor is not running that will take some more symptoms to figure out but if the engine is running and the cart is not moving we can narrow it down to the clutches or the rear end. Get back with us and let us know some more specifics...

Check the axle's at the hub could be stripped, pretty common.

Thanks, I'll have an opportunity to look at it a little closer tomorrow. I'm going to assume that if I put it up on a stand the problem will review itself, then I can seek info on how to fix it.

Actually a stripped hub will reveal itself on the ground but not in the air sometimes..... remove the wheel cover and axle nut dust cover if present to view the axle nut while somebody revs the cart in gear ..... the hub is stripped if the nut spins but the wheel does not ..... hope this helps

Today I had a chance to actually see this cart for myself and the real problem is that it won't start. My son-in-law mistook the starter turning over the motor for it running and not moving. The belt and clutch and hubs seem fine. The compression is close to 120, the spark is good, gas seems to be flowing, and the exhaust doesn't seem to be plugged, so I'm thinking it's a carb problem. Am I missing anything?

Sounds right, pull the gas line off where it goes in to the carb , put the line in a bottle so gas goes not spray every where, take the plug wire off the plud so it will no crank up and take off on you, and turn the motor over to see if it is pumping gas first

I did pull the gas line off just after the gas filter and it was pumping pretty good. I can do it at the carb too if you think its necessary.

Car was running OK but not great. Stopped for a shot and it wouldn't move after that. The 3 year old drove while the 6 year old and Dad pushed it back to the barn.
