Default Muffler Smoking After a Run

So I took out my recently purchased 01 TXT 4 storke after woking on a few things to the body and frame. Took it down to the corner gas sation, filled up with gas and went back home. When I got home and shut the cart down there was steady stream of smoke coming out of the muffler for about 3 min. Any ideas what would cause that? I just purchased the cart a few weeks ago so I have no idea if this is a normal problem or a new one. BTW the muffler it came with was not a stock muffler so I found a used stock muffler from a local golf cart dealerand installed it. I am sure the carb needs work because it will never start unless I have the choked pulled out. Once I have it going for a block or 2 I can let go of the choke and it will keep going. Once I stop I have to pull the choke again to get it to fire up. Thanks for the help guys.

It's possible that the used muffler you got came off of an engine that had a catastrophic failure, and possibly pumped oil into the muffler.. When you warmed it up during the ride, the oil began to burn off.. See if it stops smoking after a few more runs..

Depending where and how long the muffler you bought from the dealer, was stored. I have found that mice will nest in any thing they can. I have found air cleaners on my atv's packed full of stuff after being stored all winter down in my shop..

Baldy is right on about the critters in the muffler.
I would look at the carb and inlet tubes.
The need to choke it that much means to much air,
leaks in the inlet and air box, or not enough fuel(gummy carb, weak fuel pump)
it takes a step by step going through.

Does the smoke have an odor that would help identify the smoke? The carb definitely sounds like some trash in the carb... I suggest remove and clean properly... Also check your in line fuel filter..

Thanks for the tips guys. As always you guys are a great source of information. After I ran it a few times around the block this weekend the smoke slowly got less and less. I am sure it was just some oil in the used muffler.

Now time to tackle the upper floor pan. Someone chopped some of the steel off so I will need to fabricate some supports.

Ray try turning the air fuel mixture screw out a 1/2 turn to see if it helps the choke start problem.
If it doesn't it's time to pull the carb and do a good cleaning, paying attention to the low speed jets since that is causing the choke starting.

Thanks Crash. Going to do some work on the carb this weekend and see what I can come up with.
