99 TXT low compression
I have a 99 TXT I did a tune up on it and adjusted the valves to .004 and was going to check the compression and found it to be 110. I know that souns very low the cart runs ok i guess. It is new to me should i get a different gauge to check it or am i doing something wrong. I was getting ready to sink some money I wanted to lift it and other stuff. Any info would help before I spend the money the wrong way.

Re: 99 TXT low compression
110 sucks if that is right. You should have a significant power loss!!! 145 to 155 is what you need. I'd say yes to tryin another gauge, cuz somethin aint right. If your still showin 110 after a second test with another gauge a top end rebuild is in order. You can try backin the valve adjusters off letting the valves close and puttin air to the cylinders to see if the problem is with the valves, rings or both.

Re: 99 TXT low compression
Squirt a dollop of oil into the barrel via the spark plug hole and re-check the compression; an increase in psi points to rings/piston wear whereas no increase would suggest a leak at a valve.

Re: 99 TXT low compression
Make sure the test is done with a fully charged battery and the throttle at wide open .... lack of either of these can result in low readings

Re: 99 TXT low compression
SlowGo... or anyone... Can You give me an idea what it costs you (parts and labor) to upgrade to the 350 engine. I think I may be needing to do the same thing.
My 295 compression is about 65PSI and it is running really rough/little power. thanks, dick jurgensen |

Re: 99 TXT low compression
Depends on the feasibility of upgrading to the 350.
I may have to get this one rebuilt. I assume that an upgrade will require a swap of some sort. So.... more than likely... not. d.j. |

Re: 99 TXT low compression
Not sure who you are going to for the rebuilt engine but most want same size cores.... I have a 295 right now that needs rebuilt because the customer wanted a 350 instead of the 295. Cost him an extra $150 for no core but he seemed to be happy with paying it.
