Exclamation 89 EZ-GO 2 cycle rebuild - crank/case assembly issue

I'm looking for help with the rebuild of a 1989 3PG. While assembling the crank/case, the crankshaft drops nicely into the single bearing side of the case, but is hanging up where it enters the second bearing on the drive side. The bearings were seated properly and appear to be level, so I'm not sure what is causing the problem.

Any thoughts?

My instinct is that the case will pull together properly if the right amount of force is applied. Since I don't have a hydraulic press, my plan is to make studs out of M8-1.25 threaded rod, and pull the case together with nuts/washers (so as to not pull the threads out of the other half of the case).

I realize that I'll be applying force through the bearings (pressing on outer race via the case, resistance on innner race), and I wanted to see how careful I need to be to avoid damaging the bearings, or if this is a normal part of assembly.

Thanks,

Tim

May try chilling the crank and warming the cases.

I put my 86 together last night and had exactly the same issue. I used the old cylinder as a block and rested the rearcrank case half in it and then with a rubber mallet gently tapped the other case until it got close enough to engage the 5 crankcase bolts. Then using a diagonal pattern I tightened the bolts half a turn at a time until the job was done.
