Default Overheating 2002 EzGo gas powered cart

I have a 2002 EzGo gas and when I run it for about 30 and I stop, it will not restart when I push on the gas peddle. It seem that the cart is overheating, if I wait for about 10 minutes and the engine cools down it will start going again. This problem just started.

I just replaced the coil pack, it only does it when the cart gets hot and the headlights are on. Do you think it could be the battery. With out headlights on it will run without stopping, but when the lights are on it quits in about 30 minutes of running.

When you say it won't restart, do u mean the starter won't turn at all or is it the starter will turn and the motor won't catch up? Just clarifying!!

It is dead as a door nail, nothing it seems like an electrical problem, that is why I change the coil pack today but it is still doing it. Only with headlights on though.

Well, i wouldn't think a coil pack is the issue b/c the coil pack would only become a suspect if the engine was turning and wasn't firing. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the cart is dead after riding for some time with the lights on... It sounds like you have a connection problem.. Either at the micro switch, starter or solenoid. Could possibly be a ground. When it quits, if you turn the lights off will it start back up immediately or does it matter?

Starts right up if you turn the ignition switch back one click and turn off the headlights. Before the coil pack I replaced the ignition switch thinking it was a bad ignition.

I think I'm leaning more toward a solenoid than anything. However, the symptoms seem vague and I'm makin my best guess but I would definitely do an overnight trickle charge on the battery and have it properly tested at a parts store just to see if the heat might be causing a little problem. These electrical issues are hard to find sometimes, and might require alot of time and tracking. You can try the above, and it won't be long before some more fine help here at BGW comes along and might see somethin i've missed. Possibly someone has seen this problem before... Who knows.. hope this helps!

Some of the text from your reply got left out but I think you wanted to know if the cart pulls a load from the batt. to start the motor. Yes it does. It is somewhat substantial to, b/c its fighting 150 to 165 lbs. of compression. As soon as combustion takes over, the motor is turning the starter/gen...
