Default Help with engine missing/backfire

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and new to golf carts. We just purchased a couple of used EZ Go Workhorse golf carts and are having some problems.

While running them they have engine miss and sometimes backfire. We noticed that when we run them with the choke pulled out a little they are fine. Once we let off the choke they miss and sometime backfire. Any advice? Carborator has been rebuilt.

have you adjusted the valve lash? these a sticky post on how to do that. This would be the first thing I would do. If the problem is still there after the adjustments your going to need to take compression readings from both cylinders.

I did all that and now it is definately better but not quite there yet. It will run real good with the choke pulled out about half way but as soon as I let go of the choke it goes back to spitting and sputtering.

We already cleaned out the gas tank and put in fresh along with some cleaner. Cleaned the fuel pump as well. The cart had been sitting for about two years prior to us getting it.

If the compression tests good and the valve lash is adjusted properly I would say it's a carb/intake problem now. you may need to clean the carb again and make sure the gaskets are good, and the spacer between the head and carb isn't cracked, and they are all sealed off well.
