possible vacuum or air leak causing you to run too lean, does it run ok afterwards? Could be weak fuel pump too is yours electric?

Runs great once started. I just purchased an electric pump but havent tried it yet. I'm pretty sure no air or vacuum leaks. Do a lot of you run electric pumps and do they work good?

Does the carb handle the pressure ok Jimw ? I have read of other electric pump converted carts where a return line to the tank was required to avoid overflow issues. I believe it was a simple as adding a "tee" in the line. Apparantly, this allows ample fuel to the carb and the excess is merely returned to the tank.

Wiggle the throttle shaft. If it's got a lot of play, air is leaking by. The thing is, if there is a leak, it wont pull enough vacuum to draw fuel in, hense the choke.

On the subject of electric fuel pumps I understand taht there are two flavors. The first for a car with a carburetter has a pressure switch built in so that when the float closes the line it switches off. The pump for a fuel injected system runs constantly at high pressure in a closed loop system and should probably be avoided for your application.
