Default Engine has no power for long time after starting

Hi - New to this site and to golf carts. I recently bought a 1998 TXT (I think) and it ran fine. Then I let it sit at my lake trailer for about 3 weeks and when I started it after much cranking (using choke), it took forever to build up any momentum to take off. This continued all week-end. If it sat for an hour or so, everything repeated. Once it finally got going it seemed to run ok. It would run but not build any rpm's. I am going to order repair/service manual to try to become familiar with it - where is best place to purchase these? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would suggest a thorough carb cleaning (ethanol based gas is shite and will coat the jets in some nasty near invisible crud) followed by a nice new air filter, spark plug and a general refreshing and lubrication of all moving parts. Most running issues will come back to poorly adjusted and clogged up jets in the carburettor. Next step would be to check and replace the S/G and drive belt if required. Just like getting an old car out of the barn; it might look mint but will likely require some attention to be a safe reliable driver.

You can find some of the service manuals right here at BGW in the the gas tech section.
You might also chech the exhaust to see if it is breathing well. Something might have decided to make a home in the small exhaust outlet or maybe something is blocking it somewhere else.

Thanks for the tips Invalidsession! It gives me a place to start. I was wondering if "bad" gas could be an issue because I did fill it up at a local bait shop close to the lake that I wasn't familiar with. Along with the tune up I think I will add some Sea Foam. Forgive my ignorance but what is S/G? Thanks again~

make sure it is firing on both cylinders too, i've had an electrical issue from loose or shorting wires that would cause the cart to only fire off on one cylinder. if you clean your carb yamaha makes a very good/potent carb cleaner.

Thanks for the additional info deiseldub! I have heard that Yamaha makes an excellant product called "ring free" or "ring clear" (something like that) that is great for carb gumming problems, is that what you are reffering to or another product? Thanks~
