Default How hot should solenoid get? 93 2stroke ez go

I just for a 93 EZGO gas 2 stroke as my first cart.

I put a new solenoid (ford) in it and the solenoid is sticking and when the cart is running the solenoid gets very hot.

I have to tap the solenoid to get it to work.

Any ideas?

First off, you are learning the difference b/w a constant duty solenoid and a momentary solenoid. A Ford solenoid will work short term, but is not designed for the constant duty the starter/gen. puts on it. A cart keeps the sol. engaged the whole time the cart is under power. So, this will eat a regular automotive sol. up in no time. I would recomend the correct sol. to ensure proper operation.

Snow-Plow solenoids will work, also lift-gate solenoids.Ask your Napa or other large distributor(not places like auto-zone or advance) for a constant-duty solenoid.
