Default Driven clutch removal?

Ok, so I ordered a new machined 28 degree driven clutch from cpp. I thought I would get a head start tonight and get the old one off. No such luck...that thing is stuck on there like flies on a rib roast. I am worried that this is going to turn into a much bigger project than simply removing the old and slipping on the new.

Am I doing something wrong here? I thought all I had to do was remove the center bolt.

You need to spray all around it with a good PENETRATING oil and let it sit overnight and all day. It is probably a little rusty on the splines but the slickem will help. I had the same problem with mine so I sprayed it liberally wherever i thought the penetrant would help and used a prybar to gently push it away from the chunk. I used one on each side so equal force would be applied. This way I didn't bind it up from one side. A word to the wise if you intend on selling or using your removed clutch, be careful, it is all aluminum and won't take the abuse well. The aluminum will break instead of bend and then you'll have a useless clutch on hand. Good Luck!

Do I spray in between the two halves as well? I used wd40 tonight but I guess I will need to find something stronger. I am not overly concerned with saving it... If I can then great, if not, no biggie.

Spraying b/w the sheaves won't get in there, but sray around in the bolt hole and around the back where it slides onto the diff. output shaft... Use liquid wrench or PB blaster. Although wd 40 maybe a good product, I don't have a whole lot of faith in it as a reliable penetrant. Good Luck!

awesome - thanks for the advice. Hopefully this will work or I will have to use destructive force

Scruff, if you have a hard rubber hammer, hitting it will allow you too put some vibrations through it to help remove it. I have done this on a couple of them now, seems to work pretty well. Using PB blaster also helps really well.

Took me a week.

I'm really not sure hitting it helps. I sprayed and hit it with a rubber mallet for 3 days. Finally just sprayed it really good with PB every day. Couple of days ago I whacked once, and thought I'd to pull it off. Came right off very easily.

I just hit it with a ton of PB blaster... hopefully she will pop off when I get home from work. I am not holding my breath though. It looks like its really stuck on there.

Ok guys - she popped right off after the pb blaster. New machined clutch is on and new belt is on. Pulls a little better on the take off and climbs better but I think it's due to the machining and new belt. Still a little slow going up a long hill but I think the valve adjustment is what she really needs.

Now... Anyone want a 28 degree used clutch... Good condition, just not machined. I would like to swap it for the factory st brush guard or the performance exhaust.

Any takers
