1980s ezgo 244 cc
so i have bought a cart that is in not running the engine turns but no go i ive was wondering wht the compresion was supposed to be ive cheecked for spark and new gas in it . also if the engine rotates and has low compresion im thinking all i need to do is rebuild the top end .. i know their are a lot of 244 cc robin owners out their and any advise would be much apprecated

keep in mind that almost ANY air leak can effect compression, including crank seals (a common one that can easily be caused by a backfire, etc), fuel pump gasket, carb/intake gaskets, etc ...
IIRC you're shooting for right around 150lbs in foward and reverse |

up date . i checked the compressin and got like 30 to 45 psi .... the engine has been removed ( the piston looks like crap and all beat up and the rings are stuck ) and im in the process of getting parts. i hope i vcan get away with the top end but ill see

Just got done overhauling my 1982 with good success, with the engine out make sure you put in new crank seals. Do note the position of the port in the piston so that when you go back together it'll run.
Check the throttle shaft for looseness, if it is loose it may leak vacuum. If it leaks vacuum then you will have to choke it to make it run. If the throttle shaft is the culprit then the only choice is carb replacement. Make sure the rings are fully seated, if they are flipped upside down they wont seat all the way in the piston and you won't get it together. There is also a peg in the ring lands, the ends of the ring go on either side of the peg to make sure you have proper ring alignment. According to the manual you should use 40:1 fuel in the first tank to break the engine in and then 128:1 after that. |

I have a 1984 gas ez-go 244cc that at times is contrary to start I noticed that when it doesn,t want to start I see gas in the plastic tube next to the gas input. I checked the fuel pump and eliminated the oil injector also put in new spark plug. at times it runs perfect seems like anything I do helps. One time it quit and I left it for a period of time and went back and it started right up. any help appreciated.

1st thing is when it quits check it for spark.......the older E-Z,s don,t have a great coil setup or ignitor theres way to much wire and i see it a lot where the ignitor wires connect to coil that plug in will be bad but i would check for spark 1st.......also keep in mind if you have to push or tow the cart remove the drive belt you can damage engine if you don,t.......................

Thanks Tom for your help seems like there is pleanty of spark. When gas runs out of the overflo tube on the carburator next to the input what does this mean. gas ez-go 244cc
