So a little firery beginning...

Last summer I picked up this 1989 Ezgo 2 stroke for a deal from a friend that wanted to get rid of it. All stock, ran great... Drove it around all last summer, drove pretty good. Was never a rocket ship compared to many of the carts the neighbors have around, but would go 13-15mph... So this June was driving around all the day with my son. The seat always seemed to get hot driving this thing around since for some stupid reason they decided to route the exhaust right under the seat... Which for the life of me I could never understand...

So anyways driving back home after the long day around town it seemed to flood out. I pushed it back home and decided to wait till the next morning to check it out... Upon checking it the next morning I could see gas dripping off the bottom of the cart, so I decided to push it to the cement driveway... Well for some great reason (which I think is right in line thinking of mounting a muffler under the seat) the exhaust outlet of this doesn't exactly go to a great spot. Instead it goes right above this foam insulation... So when the needle in the carb sticks gets soaked with gas makes a pretty neat fire...

Oh yeah, and thanks for making that throttle cable melt and stick down first making the thing spin the starter with flames licking out... Nothing like running into the garage finding anything that would hold water. Found a tub and drained some of my sons pool putting that one out...



So anyways... Gunna do some major reworking... No more exhaust anywhere near my arse... Thats going to be reworked to an expansion chamber that goes to the rear... I'm gunna be changing alot on this cart...

That's a very sad tale, especially sad to see a buggy on fire, however I have a different scenario for you. If you actually saw fuel leaking out of the carburetter then ignore the rest of this post, on the other hand.......

If the diaphragm on your fuel pump has split then fuel will leak past and into the crankcase during normal operation causing the engine to run rich (sound familiar?). When you turn the engine off fuel will leak from the pipe using the syphon effect it will trickle down the small breather that makes the pump work. Eventually it will fill the crankcase and then the cylinder. Then it leaks past the rings and into the exhaust pipe where it weeps past the gasket and puddles on the floor.

If you have the standard BV carburetter there is no needle to get stuck so checking the pump may be a practical solution.

Yep, I should have had a fire extinguisher handy, have one in the kitchen but not out in the garage. I haven't really checked what caused the gas to leak, and it is possible that the fuel pump diaphragm could have popped.

Part of me feels just fix it up and sell it and get a more modern cart. I dunno something to think of...
