Default 2001 Ezgo Hard to Start

Helping a friend with his 01 ezgo. Very hard to get running, Smell fuel as soon as you step on the gas pedal. almost sounds as if it is flooded. But once we get it to run it does run fine, But after it sits awhile it does it again. Any suggestions will be greatly appriciated.

sounds like it might be getting to much fuel pull park plug see if its all wet and sooty looking................this may sound dumb but when you go to start it slowly push gas pedal down until starter engages than stop see if it starts if not just slowly push pedal until you get to a spot where she cranks see if that helps at all.........i know its not a lot but its a start and you,ll be done in 10 minutes....................if plug is wet and sooty yes to much fuel.......could be fuel pump , fuel line, carb, have to try and eliminate them 1 at a time..................buy new plugs throw is see if it starts easier while they arn,t all crapped up....................................

Thanks for replying, plugs are new, have pulled them a couple of times. they come out with what you might call a black soot on them. Will try to ease into the gas pedal, see what happens. He tried it again tonight, as soon as the engine turned over you can smell fuel. Was thinking the float in the carb might be out of wack or the fuel pump might be bleeding into the carb. Not really sure. Thanks again for the advise.

Had trouble starting mine, once it started and warmed up t would run ok.. I found mine was a plug wire grounding out, moved it away from the block and it starts fine now. It was actually the boot touching a manifold bolt.

you can also try pinching your fuel line and cutting flow down some see if that helps, if new plugs are already sooty yes to much fuel.............

Put a new fuel pump on. Did good for about 10 mimutes. then back to the same old routine. Carb loads up, if it sits for more than 10 mimutes. Acts like it's flooded. diconnect the fuel line and crank on it for a while and it will start. Could the floats be out of adjustment? Or some depree trapped somewhere? Thanks

Sounds like either the float is getting gas in it and weighting it down lettin too much fuel in or the needle or seat is bad. If I'm not mistaken that float is probably plastic and is not adjustable. It could be simple as some trash in the seat. Either way looks like you need to break the carb. down to clean and inspect.

Still have the same on going problem. Installed new battery, coil, fuel pump, solonoid, adjusted the valves. Had installed a new igniter this spring. Checked all connections and ground.

We hooked up a battery charger with a boost. Can get the cart started that way. But will die if you let off the gas pedal. But once the engine get warm the cart will start on it's own and will run most of the day.

Any suggestions please ! I'm at a lost.

Likely a dirty carb. Clean all jets: main and pivot. Remove jets, if you can, and ensure that the tiny holes are not clogged. To remove the main jet, you have to uninstall the carb.
