Default Is 1990 ez go 800 worth buying?

I found a golf cart local that i was thinking about buying. I already have a yamy g1. I know its old and know a little about it. The one im looking to buy now just to beat around in too at my camper is a 1990 ez go gas 800 gxt. I dont think there is a gxt model though, but that is what he said it is. This model has a bed on the back of it. I know nothing about ez go's. He wants 600 but will prob take 500. It does run he says, just needs new plug. Can you make them faster, or worth lifting if you can? Just woundering if not worth buying. Thanks for any input, Tony.

I think that before I laid out my cash I would buy a plug and a wrench and see if it does "just need a plug". Without a test drive you should budget for ;

A complete rebuild kit $416
A drive clutch $265
A driven clutch $165
A HEI mod kit $60

now it doesn't look like such a good deal. On the other hand if it runs reasonably well and you are just looking for a beater $500 sound fair.

Would work for me. Even if you had to replace the motor. No idea what the deal is with the GXT, maybe an early Workhorse?

An 800 gxt is a workhorse. What engine is it? I don't know if they put 295 and 350 Robbins 4 strokes in them in 1990. But if it is make sure it don't have a broken connecting rod. He maybe telling you it needs a plug when its only got one cylinder working.

I did the exact same thing for 500$ & came out smelling like a rose. I bought a 93 not running some small tweaks & she was running.

I would try a plug, but if that fixes it you may not be able to talk the guy down on his price!!

It could be a gamble.. Roll the dice!

Madoc, what size engine is that? It looks to be a 2 stroke with injection system disconnected. Lots of promise there. Are you gonna lift her up a bit? Must ride nice with coil springs in the rear. I have a 1200 workhorse and it rides really stiff.

Thanks for the input guys! I do know its a 2 stroke. I will block off the injection cause thats what just failed on my yamy. Any one know what plug this will take and maybe ill take one with me to try it out. Im guessing you can lift this year and mess with the motor? I did look for stuff for it and didn't seem like there was much out there for it. What cart is this to know what to look up parts for? Thanks again
