I'm not familiar with the 88's. Maybe ruredy or someone will see this. If not, post a pic of it and we should be able to tell you how to disable, adjust, or bypass it.

I'm not sure about this model either. I would say if it's on top the rear end then just tighten it down all the way, if it's up against the driven clutch, I would remove/bypass it. I know lots of the guys have done the latter with there carts and I have done the former with 4 stroke carts. the later model 2 strokes had the same gov. setup as the 4 stroke, but i'm not sure of the years

The governors, no matter which model, are part of the throttle cable system, not the carb. When the cart is going to fast the governor will pull back on the throttle cable slowing the engine. On later models it's on the top of the rear end and has the throttle cables hooked to it. most of the 2 strokes had a setup where the driven clutch activated it so theres a part that rides up against the clutch. Alot of the 2 stroke carts already have it removed by previous owners.

1988 would have the gov. in front of the driven clutch. It is a lever that pulls the cable when going too fast and closes the throttle on the carb to slow the cart down. By removing this, you are allowing it to not only go faster, but to also over-revv and possibly destroy something. These 2-strokes have a lot of speed in them, but you have to be aware of your RPM's as it can rattle itself apart.

Personally, my foot is my gov! I didn't have a gov. when I got mine and the engine was pretty dead (scarred piston and cylinder, badly worn rings, broken gaskets). Going fast is fun, but sometimes comes with a price. Be nice to it and push the limits a little and enjoy!

Post the pic Mike. It will be easy to see if it's hooked up or not.
