Default 1979 Robin 244cc 2pg 2stroke, electrical problem

I have a 1979 244cc 2pg Robin 2 stroke (EZGO CAR).The motor has just been put back in the car(new piston & rings done) & everything has been re-connected except there is thin black wire (about 9" long) coming from the wiring loom from the internals of the motor & I don't know where it goes.About the only thing it will reach is the - side of the coil(which has a blue wire & a yellow wire going to the + side & a red wire going to the - side).Would it go to this connection?
Hope somebody can help.
Cheers,Dennis

Hello Dennis,
Here is a 1978 circuit diagram. The black wire should be from your contact breaker points and should go to the negative of the coil. The positive side should have a light blue which originates from the cutout switch and a yellow from the regulator relay. According to the diagram there should be no red wire at all.
Good Luck
Dave

Thanks Dave. I thought it should go on that terminal. The red one that is on there goes to the regulator. Thanks,Dennis

Sorry Dave I'll correct that, the red wire actually goes from - terminal of coil to (earth) bolt holding regulator to the body. That doesn't sound right to me, I wonder where the red one should go? Cheers,Dennis

A permanent ground on the negative of the coil will simply stop the cart running. I wonder if at one stage it was wired to a kill switch? If it were me I think I would disconnect it and see if I can get the cart running.

Yeah all sorted now Dave. The red wire goes from earth terminal on regulator mounting (earth) to shroud mounting screw on motor (maybe to earth the regulator?) Not sure why,but it is all up & running now. Once again thanks heaps for wiring diagram & your help.
Cheers, Dennis.
