If it's in good shape 5000 rpm won't hurt it a bit. That is a good safe limit for the stock valve springs.
Of course you have to have a good ignition to do that. The limiter in the stock ign module is at about 4500 rpm. The engine will usually go into valve float at about 5500-6000 rpm with stock springs and the valve keepers sometimes fall out! Ask me how I know. I do sell a kit with Stainless valves (intake and exhaust), and better springs that will let you rev to beyond 6000 safely. Fred |
