Anyone on now that knows how to check compression on a 85 ezgo gas engine? I guess it's different on a 2 stroke?

I have never checked compression on a 2 stroke, but it would work the same.
The pressure in the gauge will not be exhausted at the bottom of the stroke.
Just screw in the gauge and turn the engine over 3 or 4 times and read.

Hold the throttle wide open while testing.

What they said as well. It is a small point but it is considered kinder to the coil to put the spark plug back into the lead and rest it on a metal surface. This will prevent the secondary of the coil running into an open circuit and creating unduly high emfs.

Angry Re: How to check compression on a 2 stroke

Thanks guys for the info. I guess that explains why it won't start!!! I have about 30 lbs. pressure & that is all. Probably would need at least 90 to 100 to even fire, wouldn't it? I wonder now if I need a top end kit or crank seals, or both. (& where is the best place to get them) Any help would be appreciated.

You'll want both. The crank seals won't have affect the compression. Vacuum.. but not compression. Top end kits really aren't all that expensive. And while you have it apart, you'll want fresh seals since they are cheap. Maybe even bearings. Definitely worth your effort to freshen that engine.

your talking about crank bearings right? Gonna get top end kit, seals, anything else? It's all pretty cheap.

Pick, You will want to check the jug bore first! Two strokes have a tendency to bell shape at the bottom of the bore. Not that big of a deal, but you will need to have it line bored before ordering rings and piston. 2 strokes are very easy to work on. good luck
