hey guys
this group is great. I've been lurking for a time and have learned so much.
i have a Ezgo gas with the 295 robin that was sold as a jacobsen 810 express.
I've had it for 6 yrs and it has been tons of fun, and a real workhorse around the property. After seeing this site I've decided to treat it to a lift kit and some 22 inch tires on 10 inch rims and maybe some other things.
I'm trying to identify just what i have so if there's anyone here who can deciper some codes I'd really appreciate it and maybe some advice on which way to go.
The model # is GXJ-810
Manufacturing code is GO396. I'm guessing it's a marathon because of the swing arm rear suspension. All the lift kits i see are for the leaf spring.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd also be sending along some pix of the progress.

That's the critter..except mine does not have any EZ-GO markings on it and it's the Jacobsen orange..(yuck). It does have the dump bed on it but without the linear actuator so it's manual. I do kinda like the industrial look of the diamond plate theme and when i paint it I'll try to accentuate it.
It has been absolutely dependable for me and i have loaded the back with stone and everything else you can think of and no problems at all. So it's time to give it a treat and dress it up..not a bad deal for $100 huh?

Your car was built December 3rd, 1996

The workhorse (E-Z-GO model name until 2002) you have will require lift blocks for the rear kit.

It is a marathon based cart, branded with the Jacobsen name. The ezgo model of that cart is GXT/GXI 804 (aka Tuff1). I'm not sure what lifts will work on these, I have only seen home made lifts on these carts because of how the rear springs are done. I cut off the top rear spring mounts and welded blocks between them and the frame to lift the rear of mine. I have seen where guys use 2 different size pipes (one that fits inside the spring and the other the spring sits on) to lift the rear. The front I just made blocks for, but if it was my only cart I would have used a ST drop axle on it and changed the spring to TXT ones for the front lift. The TXT springs will move the front axle out a few inches and provide more tire clearence and the drop axle just looks better.

I have also heard that coil over springs available from the pit stop web site will work also. Just have to find the correct length and spring rate for the 2.5 inch ID. pretty pricey also. then Suzuki Samauri (sp) rear shocks might be the right height for an approx. 4-5 inches of lift.
Were the driveline components of any heavier duty than the standard cart?....
shorter belts and the 28 degree clutches..etc? mine has the 27077 drive belt which i see everyone saying is the way to go unless I go for the Yahama belt?
I know i seem to think these things out too much maybe...but i don't like finding out I spent too much $$$ needlessly for the latest trick of the week and suffer some problems down the road.

The stock belt (27077) for that cart is the shortest one ezgo has/uses, I have never tried the yamaha belt but others have with what they say are good results. I believe I would go with the 28deg clutch on this model instead of the shorter belt. As far as the rear and engine, these are the same that were used in the golf carts.

Phase 1 is complete 4 inch lift kit with 10 x 23 inch off road tires. next will be some better seats. After that a killer paint job..you guys are a bad influence on me...heheheh
