How to: Street legal a cart, lights, mirrors, etc...
So we have decided that instead of selling our cart we are going to make it street legal for camping purposes. I know every state is different but lets just focus on what I know is for sure. I bought the cart with ALL the lights front to rear installed but not connected. I took care of the headlights. I bought a universal turn signal kit and will install that. Looks like I need mirrors and a windshield which is obvious. My first question on this is how do I setup a brake like indicator? My first thought is use the activation switch I have from my nitrous kit (Corvette) and somehow place it under the brake pedal. Is there another way?

The laws vary by state, county and city, village etc, which affects what you need on a cart. Not counting the obvious things like lights, signals, seatbelts etc, some oddball things that are required in different areas are 17 digit VIN, defroster, windshield wiper, speedometer, non-resettable odometer, orange triangle, flashing yellow beacon, 4 wheel brakes etc.
Where are you located? Where will the cart be used, state, county, city? Will you need to register and put license plates on it? |

If you are planning on traveling cross-country with the cart you may run into stiff resistance on it's legal usage. Do not assume that just because it has tags from your home state that the next state is gonna recognize them.

The real killer of making street legal carts around here is that you have to have hydraulic brakes on all 4 wheels and not cables , that cuts out most of the carts out there

You can add 2 wheel hydraulic front brakes (Jakes) to any cart and rear hydraulics to most carts (AmeriTorque). What is you location?
