Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
Greetings,
I need some help...well, allot of help, actually, in the identification of the axle needed for this cart and for a source for a replacement. 1999 EZ Go Gas TXT Model M499 serial # 1144296 The first two photos are plan and front views of the axle that needs to be replaced. The third is a photo of an axle mounted to the cart that was not the proper length....it was 4" too long. We are not absolutely certain whether or not the cart is "lifted" The center-to-center spacing between spindle mounting holes is 26" (critical dimension) and the leaf springs mount to/on top of the axle. Any assistance from someone who knows what this is by looking will be greatly appreciated....we have not been able to locate the proper axle for this replacement. In advance, I Thank You! |

Re: Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
your first two pics are of a stock ezgo axle. the second is an after market lifted one. if you don't want to lift your cart i bet you sell that one, or trade for a stock one. there should be any number of stock ones around as many lift their carts. or call mmt, a site sponsor. he is an ez dealer and fix you up.
is your rear lifted also? mean spring over the axle? |

Re: Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
Yep you need to explain what your wanting, reoplacer the straight axle? I would bet if you went to the forsale section you would find what your needing. If you don't want the drop axle .sell it in that area and use to by the staright axle, or you might even get someone to trade you. Oh don't forget to keep your spindles as you will need them for your new axle

Re: Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
It appears by the last picture the axle will hook up to the cart, but you are concerned the spindles are farther apart then the original axle. This wouldn't be a problem, aside from the fact you will either need to lengthen the tierods or get longer tierods because the spindles are wider then with the original axle.
Of course that is assuming you are trying to lift the cart, and the drop axle you purchased is just longer spindle to spindle then the one that was on the cart. There are people here that know a whole lot more about this stuff then me, but that's the way it appears to me. Edited to add. I looked again and noticed the original axle had the springs mounted on the top, while the new one has the spring mounted on the bottom. I have a 99 TXT workhorse, and my front springs were originally under the axle, not on top. But then your original axle looks different. Mine is a square tube, while yours is taller then it is wider. It seems to me that originally having the springs on top of the axle, and now having them under the axle, you will not gain as much lift. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable then me will comment on this. |

Re: Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
the first two look exactly like a marathon axle, except, at least on the 89 edition, the plates had 4 holes. you could use it by drilling one hole if you want to go with an axle like that. a stock 99 had the plate on the bottom and three holes.
the third pic looks like a factory lift off a workhorse. |

Re: Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
Hello to all that have replied.....one thing that can be counted on in this really great forum is that, here, people are willing to share their opinions/knowledge/expertise....
What we want to do is replace the damaged, straight front axle. We have all new tie-rods, etc.. The thing that is most confusing, at least to my feeble mind, is that the springs are mounted to the top whereas I can find no such configuration as a "stock" axle....the cart, if it is actually "lifted" isn't lifted very much. The drop axle in the original 3rd pic is way too long...and would most definitely require longer tie-rods....and if installed would make the cart look like a bow-legged gorilla going down the road with the front wheel track would be much wider than the rear wheel track. reinman88....you have touched on the apparent discrepancy....that being the location of the spring mounting. Thinking out loud here....Is it possible that a stock 99 TXT axle was modified to move the spring mount plated from the bottom to the top? There doesn't appear to be any visual evidence of a previous modification but if one were made and was well done. one might not be able to tell... madoc1....the springs at the rear go over the top of the axle which would seem to indicate a short lift...no? ezgasrider...rokcrlr....thanks for the input/offers.... We are taking it (the original axle) to a relatively local dealer today....we'll see if any more light gets shone upon the subject. I'll post any new info... And thanks again to all....this is a great place! |

Re: Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
if the springs are on top, yes it is lifted. and on the axle i think you have it. some have done a small lift by moving the plate. good luck

Re: Help needed to identify axle and locate replacement part
Well, as it turns out, the axle was a stock axle that had been modified. A couple of minor modifications later and we're back in business. Many thanks, again, to all those that contributed to the solution.
Have I said what a great place this is? |
