Collapsed EZGO shackle
I have a 1994.5 EZGO Gas that we use for buzzing around the campground. It is lifted and has a back seat. The problem that I am having is that the shackle connected to the passenger side rear spring is collapsed much more than the one on the other side. I have confirmed that the springs and shocks are fine. What else could be causing this problem?

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
For the shackles to collapse they must first bend, Are you saying the shackles leanor pivot back more than the other side? If they are not even and not bent you most likely have a weak or bent spring. The only other possibility is the shock on the oposite side is stuck holding that side up higher but less likely.
Can you post a picture or two? EDIT: Sorry Steve, Welcome to BGW!!!! |

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
Well it is not the springs or the shocks, because I have just replaced those with new. To my horror the problem is still there. The shackles themselves are not bent. Almost has to be a bent frame?

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
Yes the shackle on one side pivots back much further than the other side. Enough that you can tell that the cart is leaning in the back.

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
You may want to check the upper & lower shackle bolts to make sure they are not bound up & that they can pivot freely.
Also when you replaced the springs, it may be possible that your axle to spring perch alignment was off & that could create a binding issue. Good Luck. |

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
Try to get a measurement from the front spring mounting bolt to the rear frame upper shackle bolt on both sides.

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
I'll bet the frame is bent on that side or the springs are different lengths.

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
My neighbor had a EZGO with a similar situation, turned out that his shocks were too short to reach the mounts after installing the lift kit. Loosen the shock and see if the cart levels out. If it does, they make extenders to lengthen the shocks.

Re: Collapsed EZGO shackle
I had the same problem and everyone was more than helpful on finding a solution. Which thank you again to everyone who contributed to helping. Then Gaston answered the question on Pg 6 . It was a bent frame. Here is the link to the post and in it tells how to fix it. I used a hydraulic jack. Good Luck.
