Surging throttle
Cart was running great....took it out for a run 15 min out 15 min back in and when I got close it started to surge....pulsate.....like its running out of gas, but lots of gas AND ckecked gas filter...all okay.
I did take the governor off and didnt adjust it to over stress it....I kinda wonder if that could be it. NEED UR HELP....why is surging like its running out of fuel? Havent ck'ed the valves...could it be them? THANKS ALL. |

Re: Surging throttle
Check the intake valves and go from there. I changed all sorts of fuel related parts with no improvements. I finally adjusted the intake valves and all the problems went away. Give them .006" of clearance. Mine were always pushing on the intake valves, keeping them from fully closing.

Re: Surging throttle
So the glass bowl on the filter is full? If the filter is blocked then it will be full because the gas can't pass through. Invest $2.50 in a new fuel filter and see what happens.

Re: Surging throttle
Still have the problem.
---I have re-adjusted the valves to .004 (ezgo manual) ---I replaced the fuel filter. ---I have checked the fuel lines. Pump is working fine. Fuel is flowing fine. ---I even backed the throttle off a little from 1" inch which overroad the governor to approx 3/4" inch. STILL NO IMPROVEMENT. Throttle is FINE FULL OPEN. I have no low or middle range of throttle. When I do try the low or middle range all she does is SURGE, SURGE, SURGE......all the way to the floor, she runs GREAT. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS out there....THANKS A LOT. |

Re: Surging throttle
I think that I would put it on stands and run it at low revs whilst observing the mechanical links to the carburetor. If nothing is shifting around then I would put the carburetor and clean out the jets and nozzles.
Good luck Dave |

Re: Surging throttle
I had that issue and the the carb flap was not closing all the way on release of the throttle. Thought it was the throttle cable sticking. Turns out the the hose clamp securing the exhaust hose on the top/ back of the manifold had loosened enough for it to turn downward and the screw on the clamp was catching on the pivoting plate connecting to the butterfly. I'd step on the gas and it would be fine, but when i'd let off it would surge abit then stop. But when i'd get back in to go again it would take off like a rocket because the carb wasn't all the way closed-- just a thought

Re: Surging throttle
Hey Bucks88, appreciate your idea. IT WORKED!!!
My problem wasn't the same as yours, BUT, you got me thinking about the throttle linkage. It wasn't a clamp but it was the linkage. I kept thinking about how perfect she was running before and then all of sudden the surging. Turns out the throttle linkage right at the carb must have gotten some dirt and was sticking, just that simple. A little dry lube and she running and throttling just great as before. THANKS for getting me to think linkage. |
