Default Replacing a Timing Belt for 1994 EZ-GO Gas

I have a 1994 EZ-Go Gas cart that the timing belt has broken on it. Do I have to remove the drive clutch in order to replace it? How do I make sure to get it in time? Anything else I should know to replace it? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Can't remember if you can get the cover off or you have to pull the clutch to remove the cover. It may just be a heck of a lot easier to see what you are doing with it off anyway, timing is as pictured below

I just did mine and YES you do have to pull the clutch. I tryed to do it with out pulling the cllutch and ya really can't see the bottom timing mark without pulling the clutch, and ya can't get the cover off unless the clutch is removed

Yep, my manual reads... line up the timing marks, install the belt then rotate the crankshaft two turns then tighting the idler to torque. So i did that and i was one tooth off on the cam pulley so i took the belt off and turned the cam pulley 1/2 turn to its mark and reinstalled the belt, turned the crank and it was perfect. so my point is it can be 180 out, in my case anyway. Anybody?

Thanks for the help guys. I bought a clutch puller, but am still having a very difficult time pulling the drive clutch because the frame is in the way and it is very hard to turn the puller bolt. I was able to get it started by hand so I assume that it is the correct one. Is it possible that is is just so stuck on that it is making it that hard to turn? How do I keep the whole assembly from turning while I am trying to turn the puller bolt? Does the engine need to be removed out of the frame to make it easier??

I have removed the leaf spring U bolts on the driver's side and used a floor jack under that side to raise the axle & engine enough to get the puller and impact in above the frame. It is a tight fit. But I think air or 1/2 electric impact is whats needed to drive the puller hard enough to do the job. You can fill the hole with grease before the puller goes in to add some hydraulic pressure to the puller action.

Scottyb,

It seems as though my puller is bottoming out before it actually hits the crankshaft. Its like the hole that the crankshaft is in is smaller than the end of my puller bolt, thus not allowing it to actually push against the crankshaft. Does that seem possible? If so, any idea what is the correct puller bolt? I ordered the one that was supposed to be for that cart. Thanks again for taking the time to help.

Can you post a link to the puller you have?

Hot Rod, I had the same problem with my clutch... had to cut a peice of 5/8 rod 1 1/2 inches to stick in the hole first then the puller, she popped right off. i put a ratchet strap around the clutch where the start/gen/belt gos to hold it still.
