Default basic trouble shoot 91 marathon 2stroke

I am going to be working on inlaws 91 marathon. I have basic mech knowledge.
After extensive search on this forum I have come to the conclusion that I need to check the following things: Compression, fuel pump and hoses, pulsar readings.
The issue with the cart it starts runs just no power small hills, 3 people riding slow it way down.
I can not find any spec on how wide the belt should be in order to check for wear.

Any further input or thoughts on what or best way to trouble shoot would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx Dave

if the cart runs your pulsar is fine. you could have a weak spark and this usually caused by bad wiring or bad grounds or weak coil. your fuel system should also be ok if it runs smoothly and are using the oil pump or mixing at 128/1. definitely check the comp. sb 120-130 or so. also you could have a plugged muffler and it may be time for a bbq.
it does sound like a belt or clutch issue tho. check the gas tech section at the top of this forum. lots of good info on belts.

oh, and welcome to bgw.

OK Update. Good comp. 130 psi. muffler not clogged. belt mics 1 3/16 dead on.
There did not seem to be any noticeable vacuum on the fuel line.
There was oil leaking out of hose from oil reservoir.

I think our next action will be a replacement of all fuel hose and filter Cap the oil pump. and premix from here on out .What is the proper ratio for a 1991 robin 2cyc.??

Is it possible to rebuild fuel pump?

Oil mix is 128/1 (see madoc's post).

And just to make your life easier that is 1 ounce of oil to 1 gallon of gasoline. However you should be aware that it is not sufficient to just pour them into your gas tank. You should use a separate container and agitate the mixture to ensure the oil dissolves. There are many 2 stroke gas tanks that have a thick oil slick in the bottom caused by the undissolved oil.

another possibility would be a micro-tear in the fuel pump diaphragm (I went through that last year) - I replaced my fuel pump and I can definitely feel vacum when turning it over where I couldn't before (and had very similar symptoms) - a rebuild kit will run you about $28 and a whole new pump right around $32, so it's your call, personally I'd just replace it (providing a good line/filter cleaning or replacement doesn't fix you up!
